The renowned publisher has welcomed Ben Brinkman from Respawn Entertainment to oversee the studio crew at 31st Union, which is currently crafting the upcoming third-person roguelike extraction-shooter known as this innovative game.
Management Change Follows Lukewarm Response
The new appointee assumes the role of studio head at 31st Union following the dismissal of previous head the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was reportedly let go due to the game's disappointing initial reveal last autumn.
Recently, 2K president David Ismailer updated team members about this strategic move through an internal memo, which highlighted that playtesting had shown the necessity for a distinct game identity.
Ismailer stated that the team is now overhauling Project Ethos with a revised focus, aiming to satisfy player expectations.
A Pattern of Strategic Acquisitions
The news echoes a comparable action taken by the publisher in the summer, when they brought on an industry veteran from Blizzard to work on the BioShock development group.
Here is the entire message from Ismailer's memo:
Team—
I understand you all just completed your gathering - I hope you’re as excited as I am with the positive developments. Previously I shared you all a message, I expressed the following: “I am confident in this group. You all are some of the most dedicated and creative creators we have had the opportunity to work with - and we’re eager for that collaboration to continue.”
Through your commitment and flexibility, especially over the past twelve months, you continue to prove that.
The player input from last autumn’s Project ETHOS testing phase was informative. It confirmed the potential of a roguelike shooter but indicated we still had improvements to make. It revealed the necessity for a clearer vision.
It’s been inspiring to see how far you’ve advanced. You took the input to heart and reimagined the title with a revitalized vision - one that’s poised to deliver on its ambition to our audience.
Our confidence in Project ETHOS increases every day. To boost the outstanding progress you’ve made, It is a pleasure to introduce the new hire as the new Studio Head of the team. Following a period of talks, he comes aboard us on the specified date.
Ben’s management and background in the competitive gaming space is considerable, having spent the recent years producing and leading some of the most recognizable franchises in the industry, for example Call of Duty: Black Ops, and more recently, the battle royale hit.
Let’s together in greeting him next week. We are all eager to continue observing the evolution of Project ETHOS in the weeks to follow.
David

Game Information and Vision
The upcoming game was unveiled in last year together with a early access event. Initially, 31st Union described the title as a "no-cost, third-person perspective action-packed experience and an innovative evolution on the genre."
"Build your perfect run—or die trying—in this 3rd-person action shooter! Build your hero in live gameplay to fit your unique tactics," the game's pitch states. "Take on the competition with unique powers, challenges, and challenges that change every round. Do you withdraw carefully with your hard-earned loot? Alternatively go big, put it on the line, and hope your group can secure victory? The decision is in your hands."
Project Ethos has not yet received an confirmed launch window or supported systems, but enthusiasts can look forward to further news as creation progresses.
